Music spreads across the stage and, as the light rises, brings forth human figures that appear like holograms. Transfiguring music into movement, the dancing bodies are shaped after defining moments and iconic roles of a life lived through art.
Balancing between stage and reality, the body becomes a vessel of constant transformation, shifting between temporary identities while revolving around the stable axis of music. The individual dissolves into the role and into the crowd, only to be reborn on stage under a new name — a title of honour: Callas.
Honouring the centenary of the birth of the 20th century’s most prominent opera singer, Dance Athens Youth Company (DAY) presents the choreography Maria Callas.
DAY, under the artistic direction of Ilias Bageorgos and as an integral part of DANCE Athens, is a youth dance company dedicated to supporting young dancers through international collaborations.
The Maria Callas dance project begins its journey with a double presentation in Athens (October) and Paris (5 November), in collaboration with Rafael Molina, Artistic Director of Graham for Europe.
